Terms of service

These terms explain how Life Story Memoirs works when you commission a memoir package. They are written to be clear about scope, payment, cancellation, delivery, and acceptance.

Important. These terms do not replace rights you may have under applicable consumer-protection laws. In Ontario, statutory rights under the Consumer Protection Act, 2002 are not waived. Please have a licensed Ontario lawyer review high-value orders and these terms before publication.

1. Supplier and what you buy

The supplier is Life Story Memoirs, the operator Joe’s business as Life Story Memoirs on lifestorymemoirs.com. You buy the package described on your order: memoir interviews, writing and editorial services, digital files where applicable, and printed books as listed. Creative results are personal and custom; we do not promise commercial success or a particular emotional response.

2. Packages and scope

Essentials — $1,950 CAD: 2 scheduled 1-hour interview sessions, up to 50 pages, 1 revision round, and 1 printed book.
Full Memoir — $3,950 CAD: 5 scheduled 1-hour interview sessions, up to 150 pages, 2 revision rounds, and 2 printed books.
Legacy Family — $6,500 CAD: 10 scheduled 1-hour interview sessions, an expanded heirloom, 3 revision rounds, and 5 printed books.

Sessions are recorded and transcribed for the project. Extra interview sessions are scheduled 1 hour at a time at $150 CAD each. A revision round means one consolidated written list of changes. New chapters, people, or major changes to the agreed scope are separate work and require written agreement.

3. Payment and when work starts

A booking deposit of 30% of the package price is due via Stripe. We do not use PayPal. Deposit amounts are Essentials $585 CAD, Full Memoir $1,185 CAD, and Legacy Family $1,950 CAD. The deposit reserves interview dates and covers intake and first-session preparation.

The remaining 70% balance is scheduled after the deposit at the midpoint milestone; any unpaid balance must be paid in full before print. The exact milestone dates and any agreed split are stated in the order correspondence. Work starts when the deposit clears or at the first scheduled interview, whichever is earlier. Taxes are extra if applicable.

4. Refunds and cancellation

You may cancel by email to sales@lifestorymemoirs.com from the address on your order.

Before work starts: amounts paid are refunded less a documented CAD $150 administration fee, subject to applicable law.
After work starts: the booking deposit is the kill fee. We also keep fees for completed milestones and stop further work. You keep deliverables already paid for.
Print: print-related charges are not refundable once files are at the printer or books are in transit.
We may cancel if you miss two scheduled sessions without 24 hours’ notice, fail to provide required intake materials within 30 days of request, or harass staff. Completed-stage fees remain earned; unused future amounts are refunded less costs already incurred.

These are our voluntary commercial rules. They do not limit a statutory cancellation, refund, warranty, or other remedy that applies to you.

5. Delivery and acceptance

Digital files are delivered by email or customer portal. Print books are sent to the address you provide, normally with tracking. You are responsible for an accurate address and for securing delivered parcels. Tracking marked delivered to your provided address is evidence of delivery.

You have a 7-day written rejection window for each milestone. If you reject a milestone within 7 days, email specific details of the non-conformity to support@lifestorymemoirs.com. A milestone is accepted by written approval, by using or approving the work, or if no detailed written rejection is received within 7 days, subject to applicable law. The manuscript service is complete when the agreed manuscript and included revisions have been delivered, whether or not you later print or use it.

6. Revisions and materials

Included revision caps are 1 round for Essentials, 2 for Full Memoir, and 3 for Legacy Family. Feedback is due within 14 days of delivery of that round. Additional interview sessions remain $150 CAD each; extra revision or scope work is quoted before it begins. You confirm that you have permission to share source materials, photographs, and recordings supplied to us.

7. Disputes and chargebacks

Stripe card disputes are governed by Stripe, card-network rules, and applicable law. If a dispute arises, we may provide Stripe with the order, these terms, emails, calendars, milestone approvals, drafts, and delivery records. Please contact support@lifestorymemoirs.com first so we can investigate. Nothing here prevents a lawful chargeback or statutory remedy.

8. Quality, privacy, and recordings

We will provide the services with reasonable care and skill. For a quality concern, email support@lifestorymemoirs.com within 14 days of delivery with details; we will consider repair, re-performance, replacement, or refund as appropriate. Interview recordings are used only to produce your memoir unless you agree otherwise. Our Privacy Policy explains handling of personal information.

9. Checkout acknowledgement

By ordering, you confirm that you have read these Refund, Cancellation, Chargeback, Delivery, and Revision terms; understand that a 30% deposit is due via Stripe; understand that completed milestones and the deposit may be retained after work starts; and understand that statutory consumer rights still apply.
